Rehabilitation centre for women held in slavery by ISIS militants

For a number of months now, we have been planning a trauma therapy centre for women freed from ISIS slavery. So how is it going?

This woman was held as a slave by ISIS for four years. She talked with me for an hour about the worst time of her life.

We have found and rented a very suitable building that has only just been built. It now just needs to be made ready. A small amount of building work still needs to be done. Then we will need furniture, sports equipment, kitchen fittings, games, sewing machines, musical instruments, teaching materials and various materials for artistic and creative activities. Once that is done we will need women staff with the appropriate qualifications in psychological therapy, handicrafts, the arts and others.

Of the €150,000 required for the first two years, we transferred €31,500 last November. The next instalment is likely to be due soon. The girls and women are extremely traumatized after suffering years of abuse, humiliation and rape by ISIS militants. We want to give them every possible help in getting back their life and recovering their sense of self-worth as well as enabling them to lead an independent life. The approach involves psychological counselling, leisure activities such as sport, art, music etc. and will also give the women the chance to catch up on their school education, learn foreign languages and receive vocational training.

Financing one year at the therapy centre will cost around 180 Euros per participant. The project number is 8013.
